Saturday was a special day!

I went to Rexburg, ID on Saturday. It doesn’t take much for me to find a reason to head to Rexburg, even in January.

First of all—Hannah is back up there, well into her Junior year at BYU-I. I love to visit my kids up there—I love to see them growing/thriving as they work to become disciple leaders.

Back last fall, I happened to notice that Vocal Point would be performing at BYUI. I made a mental note. We had just recently seen Vocal Point at Nauvoo. They are really something. If they ever come to your area, make the effort-they are worth it.

In putting the trip together, it occurred to me that it would be really silly to go all that way and not have a visit with Lori, my sister, who lives in Idaho Falls. So we made plans to meet for lunch. The food was less than stellar, but I wasn’t there for the food. We had a great visit!

A real highlight of the day was visiting with my beloved piano teacher from my Ricks College days. We’ve kept in touch off and on over the years and I’ve manage to visit her at home a few times. The last time I saw her she was bed-ridden. We had a great visit but I wasn’t sure what to expect two years later. I made contact by emailing her son, who is listed as a staff member at BYU-I. He was kind enough to forward my email on to his father, who said it would be fine to come for an hour or so in the early afternoon. When I arrived, Sister Barrus was sitting up in a chair, looking rather chipper, I might add. It seems they found a medication that helps her rheumatoid arthritis ravaged body to not be in constant pain. I sat down and for about an hour I wasn’t 50-something anymore, I was an 18-19 year-old piano student, revisiting wonderful memories and catching up on new and old news. From that point on in the day I was perfectly satisfied that my trip to Rexburg was complete!

We went grocery shopping—the standard trip to Broulim’s to stock Hannah up for a few weeks, and then bowling at Fat Cat’s.

I still maintain that our lane was slanted—in both directions. I don’t remember when I’ve bowled so poorly. Oh well,….

Dinner at JB’s and then the wonderful Vocal Point concert. Check them out on YouTube. Lots of their best songs are posted.

Because Bekah and Jeremiah came along, we were able to drive all the way home Saturday night. Actually, Jeremiah drove all the way up for me. That was a treat-to split the driving all the way around. I made it as far as Tremonton. Bekah took it from there and Jeremiah stayed awake with her. I didn’t much care who drove from that point, I was just glad to have someone to finish the trip. Sarah, at one point, was planning to come, but one day realized that she attends BYU-Provo. Vocal Point is a part of BYU-Provo. Maybe she didn’t need to go all the way to Rexburg to see them! As it turned out ,Vocal Point performed at the BYU-SDSU basketball game that she attended on the Wednesday before our trip. So, everything works out!
