Memorial Day weekend pt. 2

The rest of the evening was spent eating, playing games and laughing. Sarah, Hannah, and Amy arrived around 8:30.  Sarah and Amy were preparing for their big bike ride, so they loaded up on carbs at dinner time.  We tried to be very supportive of their effort!

We ended the evening with a rousing game of Balderdash.

The next morning, bright and early, Sarah, Amy, and Caleb took off on a ride around Bear Lake. For more info, see Sarah’s blog (sarah n dip i ty,) listed on the side of my blog. They had quite a day.  We got a picture text about 11:30 in the morning.

I texted back to see if we needed to come rescue him.  Sarah replied that he was fine for now.  About 30 minutes later we got a call from Caleb that he was winding down.  It seems that his bike wouldn’t shift quite right and the front tire was a bit low on air.  He called a few minutes later saying he was done.  We had already started out to see how far they were around the lake. We picked him up at 23 miles left to finish.  We drove on around the way they had come and discovered that he made it 28 miles. Pretty impressive.

We walked around  the little gift shops up the road from the cabin.  Lots of expensive stuff! Still killing time till Sarah and Amy rolled in, we ordered pizza and ate lunch and finally sent out scouts.  They had about 2 miles left to go at 2:00 p.m. So, we got out the finish line tape and the cameras and kept and eye on the road. Finally, here they came!

They made it the entire 51 miles. Took a bit longer than they had expected.  But they were smiling.

We cleaned and packed and loaded up by about 4:00.  We stopped at Lebeau’s for fresh raspberry shakes for the cyclists—no hesitation on their parts, and headed home. It was a quick get a way, but a wonderful time. Thanks to Steve’s mother’s family for sharing their wonderful cabin!
