Sarah,Bekah, Hannah, and I recently took a trip to Washington D.C. I LOVE D.C. I still remember my first visit—Sept 1981--when Sarah was just 4 months old. Frank’s parents lived in Germantown, MD, about 45 minutes out of the city. We spent two weeks. It was love at first visit!
So, on this trip we arrived in the evening of Aug. 4. Bekah’s former roommate, Tana, met us at the airport. She took us to her condo in Alexandria, VA. She’s married now. She and Von opened up their 1-bedroom condo to us.
We dropped our luggage, had a quick bite and headed up town. The metro stop is about a mile from their place. We came up at the Smithsonian Metro stop. There was a friend of Bekah’s waiting for us. She was just finishing up an internship in D.C.
This was our first view of the Mall that evening. The temperature was perfect, the evening was young and we just started walking.
We gathered for a group shot.
Lying on my back at the base of the monument!
But then we arrived at my favorite memorial--
the World War 2 Memorial. There is such a sacred spirit at the memorial. I think it’s because my parents were of this generation. My father served in the Army Air Force. My mother worked for Boeing during the war. She wasn’t a Rosie the Riveter, she worked in the accounting office.
I love to read and ponder the quotes on the wall surrounding the fountain.
The girls gathered for a group shot at the Atlantic end--
Love this picture!
Then we look back at where we’d been a little while earlier--
It was a lovely beginning to a wonderful week!
