Family reunion at Owyhee Reservoir

I love the 4th of July, and I love family reunions. So what could be better than a family reunion on the 4th of July!  Actually, it was the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of July, and it was wonderful.

Owyhee Camp HycliffWe left Thursday morning, Frank, Caleb, Dinah and I.  Sarah had to work, and she was headed to Peru in a few days.  Jacob , Cori , and Benjamin are STILL in Florida.  Abby and Steve had work and school.  Bekah and Hannah were waiting for us to pick them up in Twin Falls.  They caught a ride and spent the night with Katie, a delightful roommate.

We drove up through Snowville, Burley and landed in Twin Falls about 1 in the afternoon—just about half way there.  We loaded the girls in and carried on.  Bought lunch—tacos—off a taco truck in Jerome, Id.  Very tasty, just not very much of it.  But we had plenty of snacks in the car.

Frank realized within about 4 minutes of leaving the house that he had forgotten his hat.  But he figured he’d buy one somewhere along the way.  Consequently, it took us a couple hours to get from Caldwell, Id to the reservoir, which is not far out of Nyssa, OR.  We checked every little drug store, and hardware store, and farm shop from Homedale to Adrian.  No luck .  Just lots of sunscreen the next day!

c amp.—turned out they were rented anyway.  We set up our lovely little tents.  It was nice to have a chance to use them.  Seems like we don’t camp nearly as much as we should.

I  had seen Aunt Beverly and Aunt Nadene just a few months ago at Dad’s funeral, but it had been awhile since I’d seen some of my cousins.

We ate and talked and laughed and ate and boated and laughed and played games and wondered why we don’t get together more often.  I was very grateful that we took the time to attend.  I appreciate Frank and my children for being willing to drive the 7 hours (past Burley, Twin, Mountain Home, and Boise) to spend just under 2 days with family.

This is one of my favorite images from the  weekend.  Holly has 7 children.  This is a shot of her on Saturday morning as we were breaking camp.  She was most likely nursing Faidra while holding—Cordelia?  She is a delightful mother.

As we were leaving, we passed an LDS church out in the country with a cemetary next to it.  I asked Frank to stop.  I hadn’t been here for years, but knew just where we were.  My Grandma May—Naomi Jane is buried there.  I also have an Uncle Val, a cousin Stacy, and a cousin’s son—Loughlin buried there.

You didn't tell the story of how you had to call your son in Florida to get directions for you in Idaho! I just thought that was funny.
